RELATED STORIES Sunday’s Homeland series finale was originally expected to kick off with the return of a crucial personality, yet the combination of budget overruns and also an 11th hour appeal from Claire Danes resulted in the scene’s demise.
Showrunner Alex Gansa informs TVLine that an earlier variation of the farewell performance included a series in which Danes’ Claire reunites with separated little girl Franny. “There was a really substantial Carrie/Franny scene that opened the ending at one point,” the EP exposes, prior to including that the scene ended up getting excised for “two large factors.”
The first “factor is we had actually presumed over spending plan this season,” Gansa discusses. “One of the battles that you have making television shows is how much you’re spending on every episode. As well as we just could not [financially] fit it in.”
And the 2nd factor, per Gansa, entailed Homeland leading lady/exec manufacturer Danes. “Claire felt very strongly that Carrie had actually decided to leave Franny behind in Season 7,” he claims. “So we fixed that by having [Carrie get hold of a] photo of Franny as opposed to [having a] scene.”
